2019 marks the 125 years of Heceta Head Lightstation! Heceta Lighthouse B&B will be celebrating all year with a calendar of special events that allows more people to experience the historic lightkeeper’s home and raise funds to support the interpretive center and restoration of the property. This is how we are kicking off the birthday year:
The public will have two opportunities for an elegant 7 Course Brunch along with a docent-led Historic Home Tour, which not only includes a tour of the first floor, but a rare opportunity to tour the second level of the lightkeeper’s home, which is graced with six beautifully decorated guest rooms, baths and unbelievable views. The recipes for the 7 Course Brunch are from the Lighthouse Breakfast Cookbook and based on a long standing tradition created by the founders of the Bed and Breakfast which is served daily to overnight guests. Each course is presented with information about the local sourcing of the ingredients and interesting stories that inspired the recipe. The Lighthouse Breakfast Cookbook will be available for purchase.
Introducing the Speaker in the Parlor Series! Enjoy freshly baked pastries and fresh fruit along with Green Salmon coffee and Stash teas while listening to a special guest presenter who will share historical stories of what life was like as a lightkeeper and lightstation resident. Some topics will be Captain “Cap” Herman’s (Heceta’s longest managing lightkeeper) personal journal entries, readings from the personal letters of one of the school teachers who taught in the small school house down by Cape Creek, and an overview of logbook entries from the Head Lightkeepers’ log book that was found at the National Archives in Washington D.C. by one of our very own volunteers. These tales and stories about the families and visitors that were dedicated to being keepers of the brightest light on the Oregon coast are sure to be entertaining and thought provoking in the home’s warm, intimate setting.
The Exclusive Sunset Wine Tasting with Tyee Wine Cellars is a rare opportunity to taste the extraordinary wines of Tyee served personally by the Tyee family who has owned the local farm where the winery is located and the grapes are grown for 134 years….lots of stories to tell into the night! Heceta Lighthouse B&B will provide light appetizers to complement the current wines served. Enjoy good friends in the warm Keepers Home while viewing the sun setting next to Heceta Lighthouse while sipping Tyee wines and gourmet appetizers. A night to always be remembered! Reservations required.
Springtime brings our Spring Tea & Mother’s Day Tea. The culinary team will serve a delectable selection of fruit, sandwiches, desserts, and stash teas amidst fresh flowers and beautiful table settings in the main dining room and parlors. Relax and enjoy the lightkeeper’s home as your own for a family style gathering. A brief history talk and visit to the Gift Shop will be available for those who are interested.
Feeling adventurous? An hour-long Spring Equinox hike will be led by a local guide at 4pm after the Spring tea. Meet in the culinary gardens behind the Keeper’s Home by 10 til 4. No reservations required.
March 30th marks the day that Heceta Head’s First Order Fresnel Lens was lit and set into operation. Come to the Heceta Head Lightstation Birthday Party from 4-7pm, celebrating 125 years! This is a free, community event with hot dogs from Taylor Sausages, refreshments, cupcakes, live entertainment, and special presentations by local agencies that all have been a part of Heceta Head Lightstation’s history.
